This summer I lead the TTL group at MassArt converting our Moodle 1.9 to 2.0 and moving it to MoodleRooms as part of it becoming MassArt’s official course-ware. We’ve been using Moodle at MassArt since 2004, first as a small pilot for the Art Education department and then as an alternative course-ware platform for the entire school. By 2010, we’d hosted our 80th course.
Many of MassArt’s online course materials were being hosted at UMassOnline’s Blackboard site. However, the platform was not much liked and not the best choice for the media-rich learning done at an art school. We converted each course by hand, deciding which Moodle course template would work best and optimizing gigabytes of PowerPoint presentations.
The site went live September 5th and has been met with positive reaction from most users. We still have a lot of work to do helping teachers realize the possibilities Moodle can add to their classroom teaching and converting the rest of the courses still in Blackboard.
